Peter and Roselle Gouwland have operated Shadzz Motel in Palmerston North since September 2008. Roselle has a background in Administration and Accounts and Peter previously involved with Farming, Property Maintenance and Tax Administration.
With two teenage kids, home life is as busy as the motel! But they keep Peter and Roselle young.
From their previous work experience, Peter and Roselle are very aware of the importance of customer satisfaction and maintaining very high standards. In 2012, they won the AA Tourism Supreme Host of the Year Award. This is the Academy Award for moteliers that exceed guests' expectations beyond the call of duty. It also recognises very high standards in room presentation. In the same year they were also recognised by the Westpac Manawatu Business Awards for the Settlement Support NZ Investors and Skilled Migrants Category. They have housekeepers from different parts of the world and enjoy different cultures.
Peter is a patient handyman and this helps with keeping the property in tip top condition. He is very aware of room presentation and cleanliness and this has earned the motel top marks in the cleanliness score of their Qualmark yearly reviews. Peter also enjoys being ‘Chef’ and preparing delicious cooked breakfasts for his guests.
Roselle is a committee member of the Manawatu Motel Association and takes a keen interest in this ever changing industry. She enjoys getting to know guests and keeping in touch with them through e-mail newsletters. Roselle also likes organising group bookings and successful conferences.
In their spare time, Peter and Roselle enjoy reading, relaxing, walks, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
